The Cheatham County Legislative Body on Nov. 16 approved a series of contracts, budget amendments and capital projects, including a $4,456,639 school bus garage project and multiple asset surplus authorizations.
County Mayor Kerry McCarver presented several items that the body approved. Commissioners voted 12–0 to allow the mayor to sign an amended contract for fuel tanks at the county highway garage. The commission later approved the Phase 2 design contract for Sycamore Square and awarded a construction bid to C & C for Phase 2; each of those roll-call votes recorded one abstention by Commissioner Ed Greer. The Novatime support contract with Andrews Technology, recommended by the tech committee, passed unanimously by roll call.
Director of Accounts Sandrine Batts presented budget amendments affecting the County General Fund, including adjustments to jail operations, education capital projects and transfers. The body approved those budget amendments by roll call; funding sources were identified in the motion as “various” and specific line items and tallies appear in the record.
The Education Committee moved forward with the School Bus Garage project totaling $4,456,639.00; the full body approved the project by roll call unanimously. The commission also approved multiple surplus asset dispositions for the Property Assessor’s Office and the Highway Department; proceeds from sales were noted to be deposited in the appropriate county funds.
Committee actions included accepting a $116,244 bid for sheriff’s office furniture (Capital Improvements Committee), which passed on a split roll-call vote (7 Yes, 5 No). The commission approved, unanimously, a property swap with the Town of Ashland City involving approximately 185 acres (AO Smith) for the current City Hall, with a condition added by the County Attorney that county residents will not be charged for park use. Cheatham County authorized $28,341.84 to build a bathroom in the front lobby at Sycamore Square.
Road and Bridge recommended—and the commission approved—a temporary reduction of speed limits on Webb Ridge Road, Forest Drive and Brush Creek Road from 40 mph to 25 mph because of a bridge closure.
