CHEATHAM COUNTY, Tenn. — Cheatham County commissioners deferred a contested request to rezone property at 5959 Highway 41‑A to a special called meeting on Jan. 4 after neighbors and Planning staff raised concerns about allowing an RPUD and higher‑density development.
Chairman Donnie Jordan opened a public hearing Dec. 21 on a pair of zone changes sought by developer Jassan Bumpus on behalf of William Depierri: a change from E1 to R1 for 9.35 acres and from E1 to RPUD for 21.66 acres of Map 24, Parcel 4. Neighbors Michelle Perry and Mark Perry spoke in opposition, citing potential impacts on adjacent properties. Planning and Zoning member Gary Chance told commissioners the Committee recommended denial, noting county planning staff said approving an RPUD could set a precedent for other RPUD and higher‑density requests.
After initial motions to deny and to amend were withdrawn, Commissioner Chris Gilmore moved, with Gary Binkley seconding, to defer consideration of the request to a Special Called Meeting on Jan. 4. The motion was adopted by roll call. The minutes record commissioners voting on the motion; the public‑hearing record shows opposition from adjacent property owners and the Planning and Zoning committee’s recommendation against approval.
The deferral leaves the applicant’s request unresolved pending the Jan. 4 meeting, when commissioners will take up the matter again and may vote to approve, reject, or further postpone action.
