Commission approves four rezoning requests; amendment to allow campgrounds in A‑1 fails
Summary
After declining to read rezoning items as a block, commissioners considered four rezoning petitions individually and approved each (four properties rezoned from R-1 to C-2). A separate motion to amend the zoning resolution to permit campgrounds and RV parks in the A‑1 district failed for lack of a second.

Vice Chairman Rick Vassar asked the body to consider a set of rezoning requests as a single block, but that motion failed for lack of a second. The commission then approved each rezoning request individually:
- 3066 Cosby Hwy (Map 093, Parcel 071.00): rezoned from R-1 to C-2 (motion by Andy Ford; second by Jonanthon Templin). - 3082 Cosby Hwy (Map 102, Parcel 017.00): rezoned from R-1 to C-2 (motion by Andy Ford; second by Bill Miller). - 4362 Cosby Hwy (Map 119, Parcel 075.06): rezoned from R-1 to C-2 (motion by Andy Ford; second by Jonanthon Templin). - 565 Hwy 160 (Map 039, Parcel 043.01): rezoned from R-1 to C-2 (motion by Andy Ford; second by Dan Bright).
Each motion carried, and the minutes state the approvals were filed with the record. Separately, Commissioner Andy Ford moved to amend the zoning resolution to permit campgrounds and recreational vehicle parks as a special exception in the A‑1 Agricultural‑Forestry district; Commissioner Jonanthon Templin withdrew his second and the motion failed for lack of a second.
Why it matters: Rezoning from R‑1 (residential) to C‑2 (commercial) changes allowable land uses and can affect traffic, utilities and neighboring properties. The failed amendment to allow campgrounds and RV parks as a special exception keeps the existing A‑1 restrictions in place for now.
What’s next: The approved rezoning actions will be reflected in the county planning records; no implementation details are recorded in the minutes. The proposed zoning amendment may be reconsidered in a future meeting if a commissioner brings it back with a second.
