After the item was brought back, commissioners withdrew the original motion and second and then voted on a renewed motion to approve the note; the final roll call was 6 Yes, 2 No, with Chairman Donnie Jordan and Commissioner Eugene O. Evans Sr. recorded as voting no.
Commissioners asked Tim Williamson and Chris Gilmore to revisit the project next month. Dr. Cathy Beck, representing the school board, urged attention to the drainage issue earlier in the meeting and said the district had already engaged an engineer to study options.
Because the Education Committee had not recommended the financing and some commissioners expressed reservations, the motion failed and no financing was approved at the Sept. 20 meeting.
