Snowflake council hears requests for volunteers, local events and infrastructure updates

During councilmember reports and the manager’s report on Oct. 3, 2023, members and community representatives shared a series of local updates and requests for volunteer support.
Public comment began with Cindy Schreiber of the Senior Center, who urged residents to help serve the Thanksgiving dinner on Nov. 16 at 10:30 a.m. She described the fundraiser as an "adopt-a-table" program priced at $100 and said six of ten tables remained available.
Councilmember Kerry Ballard asked for 20 turkeys to support the Senior Center and noted the center had received a new roof. Councilmember JoAnne Guderian promoted the Chamber Harvest Festival on Oct. 14, the Monster Bash award ceremony and fundraiser on Oct. 24, and said the Giving Machine would be at the Freeman Home for the last two weeks of December; she said the event is run by the LDS church and organizers hope to include other denominations.
Mayor Byron Lewis noted a recent radio interview praising town staff, mentioned a new pastor at Valley View Baptist Church and recognized October as Breast Cancer Awareness Month. In the manager’s report, Brian Richards outlined infrastructure work: most wells will be converted to line-shaft turbine pumps except Well 1, multiple pump stations are being replaced (first on the west 9 completed), Freeman Home’s roof is being replaced using a favorable deal from All Custom Exteriors, and the Stinson Museum roof is being replaced with a donation from the rodeo committee with the town covering the remainder.
These items were informational; councilmembers did not take formal votes beyond previously recorded motions. Several councilmembers pledged to assist with volunteer needs and community outreach for the events and Senior Center fundraiser.
