Brian Richards, a town staff member, presented the changes during a public hearing and said the water meter capacity fee will double from $1,500 to $3,000 and the sewer capacity fee will increase from $3,000 to $4,000; the town will also charge the actual cost of connecting new customers to the system.
The move followed a public hearing that the council opened and closed the same evening. Mayor Byron Lewis said the council’s priority is ensuring the town does not lose money each time a new home connects to the system, adding that he is “interested in how it affects our system and making sure we take care of that.”
The council voted to approve Resolution 2023-14; the motion to adopt the fee schedule was moved by Councilmember Cory Johnson and seconded by Councilmember Lora Jones. The record shows the motion passed as presented.
The changes take effect under the terms of the resolution as approved by the council. The hearing and resolution addressed only the schedule of fees; no changes to service levels or infrastructure commitments were approved in the same motion.
The council moved on to other agenda items after approving the resolution.
