At its Dec. 19, 2022 meeting the Sevier County Commission approved three rezoning measures combined into a single vote, appropriated funds for the Kodak Library, confirmed several appointments including a department head, approved property acquisition and named county facilities; a resident lodged a complaint about a short-term rental operator that will move to the Intergovernmental committee.
Sevier County Commission members on Dec. 19 unanimously approved a slate of routine actions, including three rezoning measures bundled into a single vote, an appropriation for the Kodak Library and a series of appointments and facility namings.
The commission approved Resolution 2022-12-01 (rezoning Tax Map 41 Parcel 29.36, S. Flat Creek Rd), Resolution 2022-12-02 (rezoning Tax Map 45 Parcel 269.01, N. Rogers Rd) and Resolution 2022-12-03 (rezoning Tax Map 93 Parcel 107.01, 3148 Russie Gap Rd) in a consolidated vote after no members of the public spoke during the hearing. Planning commissions recommended approval of the requests. James Temple Jr., Department Head of Planning and Zoning, registered no objection to combining the items for one vote.
The commission also approved Resolution 2022-12-04 to appropriate funds for construction of the Kodak Library. Separately, it approved Resolution 2022-12-05 to approve the acquisition and merger of the Sevier County Volunteer Fire Department; Jack Parton offered public thanks to Chief David Puckett for his work with the department during consideration of that item.
Commissioners approved the purchase of a portion of parcel 093 147.00 near White Falcon Way/Wears Valley Road (Resolution 2022-12-06). Commissioner Warren Hurst suggested naming the site the "Ronnie Whaley Convenience Center"; the resolution passed by roll call vote 24 yes, 1 absent.
The body confirmed several appointments: Kristi Thomas to the Board of Zoning Appeals (Resolution 2022-12-07) and Bryan Garner to the Planning Commission (Resolution 2022-12-08). It also confirmed James Temple Jr.'s appointment from interim director to department head (Resolution 2022-12-09). Resolution 2022-12-10 approved naming the Sevier County Sheriff's Department administrative office building; Sheriff Montgomery's daughter spoke on behalf of the family to thank commissioners and county officials.
Routine notaries were approved and administrative items were addressed: commissioners were told paper agendas can be mailed to those without internet access and the Jan. 16, 2023 commission meeting was canceled because it falls on a federal holiday. During Other Business, Jack Parton thanked EMS personnel for recent service.
During the public comment period on non-agenda items, Greg Walker complained about operations at a PSCC Holdings LLC property at 1175 Pine Mountain Road in Sevierville, alleging loud music and reckless drinking by guests at cabins near his property; the commission said the matter will move to the Intergovernmental committee for follow-up.
Votes at a glance: all motions and listed resolutions passed by recorded roll call votes of 24 yes, 1 absent unless otherwise noted in the minutes. The meeting adjourned after a voice vote.
