Sevier County Commission approves multiple rezonings and appointments; denies E. Nails Creek rezoning

Sevier County Commission convened Feb. 20, 2023, and voted on a series of zoning amendments, board appointments and routine fiscal matters at the meeting presided over by Mayor Larry Waters.
The commission approved Resolution 2023-02-01 to rezone Tax Map 45 parcels 223.01–223.04 on Boyds Creek Highway from R-1 (Rural Residential) to R-2M (Medium Density Residential). Greg Haggard (committee member) moved approval; Chad Ogle (committee member) seconded; the motion passed by voice vote with a recorded tally reported as 21 yes and 4 absent. The request had been filed by James Griffith and was recommended FOR by the Sevier County Planning Commission.
The commission denied Resolution 2023-02-02, a request to rezone Tax Map 45 parcel 32.04 at E. Nails Creek from R-1 to C-1 (Rural Commercial). Ray Ogle (committee member) moved to deny the rezoning; Chad Ogle (committee member) seconded. The motion to deny carried by roll call vote, 21 yes, 4 absent. On appointments and confirmations, the commission approved Resolution 2023-02-04 to appoint a judicial commissioner (motion by Mike Hillard, second by Ronnie Allen; passed 21 yes, 4 absent), confirmed members to the Sevier County Industrial Development Board (Resolution 2023-02-05) and the Sevier County Public Building Authority (Resolution 2023-02-06) (motions passed by roll call, 21 yes, 4 absent). The commission also confirmed members to the Sevier County Health, Educational, and Housing Facilities Board (Resolution 2023-02-07).
Resolution 2023-02-08, confirming members to the Sevier County Emergency Communications District Board of Directors, passed with one abstention (20 yes, 1 abstain, 4 absent). The commission approved Resolution 2023-02-09 to remit unclaimed account balances to the State Treasurer; and approved a slate of notaries (notaries approval passed 20 yes, 1 no, 4 absent).
