Department Head Chris Jenkins briefed the Sevier County Commission on proposed language to clarify the county—————————————————'s approach to recently updated building and energy codes.
Jenkins said the change responds to state action on energy codes and is intended to make explicit that the county will not adopt provisions more stringent than state guidelines under Tennessee Public Chapter 312. "The resolution is just language clarification to be in line with the State of Tennessee the way they adopted the energy code; no new rules will be added," he said. Jenkins noted that because the change affects the code book as previously adopted, the county will open a 90-day comment period and then return to the commission in March 2024 for final adoption.
Jack Parton moved to approve the intent-to-adopt resolution; Fred Atchley seconded. The commission passed Resolution 2023-11-04 by roll-call vote, 21 yes, 4 absent.
