During discussion commissioners cited prior grant efforts and noted the grant could have been in the $500,000–$600,000 range in past cycles but that the current discussion referenced a $1,000,000 application amount as a possibility if awarded. The motion passed by roll call vote (23 yes, 1 absent).
The authorization does not itself appropriate funds for construction; it permits the county to pursue grant awards and obligates the county to provide local matching funds for any projects the water committee approves for application.
Next steps are for staff to submit the CDBG applications and for the water committee to identify and approve specific projects eligible for matching funds and construction if the grants are awarded.
