The Franklin County Legislative Committee met Oct. 10, 2019, and after discussion amended a proposed resolution to create a Budget Committee for Franklin County before forwarding the amended measure to the full County Commission for consideration. Chairman David Eldridge opened the meeting at 6:00 p.m. in Conference Room 204 at the courthouse.
During discussion, Eldridge described the draft resolution and amendments were made to specify the Budget Committee’s responsibilities, how committee members would be selected and the length of their terms; the committee did not adopt a final membership at the meeting. Johnny Hughes moved to send the amended resolution to the full County Commission for consideration; Carolyn Wiseman seconded the motion and the committee voted all ayes to forward the resolution.
The committee also handled several routine referrals. Chuck Stines moved to send a resolution approving acceptance of a donation of two burial plots in Franklin Memorial Gardens from Norman Meeks for use aiding indigent veterans; Carolyn Wiseman seconded and the committee voted all ayes to forward that resolution to the full County Commission. Stines also moved to send nine notary applications to the full County Commission; Wiseman seconded and the committee voted all ayes to forward them. Earlier in the meeting, Stines moved to approve the committee’s July 2, 2019 minutes; Barbara Finney seconded and the committee approved the minutes by unanimous vote.
The committee adjourned at 6:28 p.m. after a motion by Stines and second by Finney, which passed unanimously. None of the items acted on at the Legislative Committee constituted final County Commission action; each referral was sent to the full commission for further consideration or formal approval.
