Cumberland County commission approves 19 resolutions in unanimous votes; grants, equipment purchases and appointments included

The Cumberland County Board of Commissioners unanimously approved 19 resolutions during its Oct. 20 monthly meeting at the Art Circle Public Library in Crossville.
The package included appointments to the regional planning commission; reappointment of the county emergency medical services medical director; a county resolution asking the Tennessee General Assembly to allocate half of the real estate transfer tax to the county where it was collected; budget amendments for AEDs in the sheriff's office and county buildings; multiple school- and federal-grant budget changes for CTE, Perkins funds and nutrition programs; and authorization for the mayor to negotiate emergency-service agreements with Flatrock Motorsports. Several grants and budget amendments were for education programs and school security.
Key formal actions recorded in the minutes (motion mover and second in parentheses) included: resolution 10-2025-1 appointing Sheryl Webb and Joe Sherrill to regional planning positions (Wilson; Mall); 10-2025-2 reappointing James Wojcik, M.D., as EMS medical director (Seiber; Gibson); 10-2025-3 requesting transfer-tax allocation from the Tennessee General Assembly (Sherrill; Holbrook); 10-2025-4 authorizing Mayor Foster to negotiate EMS/fire services agreements with Flatrock Motorsports (Cooper; Mall); 10-2025-5 and 10-2025-6 approving AED and medical-kit purchases of $45,000 and $30,000 respectively for the sheriff and county buildings (Threet; Sherrill); and a series of school-related budget amendments (10-2025-11 through 10-2025-19) that included a $2,161,675.22 state grant for Career and Technical Education programs and multiple Perkins and USDA fund adjustments.
The minutes record unanimous voice or roll-call votes for every listed resolution. The finance director provided updates on EMS collections, sales and property tax receipts, hotel/motel tax and prisoner-boarding revenues. County Attorney Philip Burnett reported one new lawsuit related to county roads; he said he will defend the county and noted the case involves neighbors’ disputes over culverts. Two members of the public offered comments about state sovereignty and a zoning question regarding private campgrounds.
