Dickson County approves $21,384 emergency-response grant, sets Long Road speed limit and OKs budget amendments and appointments

At its April 15 regular meeting, the Dickson County Commission approved several routine but consequential items, including a state grant for emergency response, a local speed-limit change and budget-authority adjustments.
Resolution 04-2024-01 authorizes Dickson County to apply for and accept a $21,384.22 grant from the Tennessee Department of Safety & Homeland Security to expand the county’s emergency response capabilities. The minutes specify that the grant is 100% reimbursable: the county would initially make the payment and be reimbursed in full by the state agency. The resolution was moved by Commissioner Randy Simpkins, seconded by Commissioner Ray Ledger, and is recorded as having passed by a unanimous aye voice vote.
The commission also approved Resolution 04-2024-02 to set a 35 mph speed limit on Long Road, covering the segment that extends from State Highway 47 (TN-47) to Rock Church Road. Commissioner Randy Simpkins moved the speed-limit resolution and Commissioner Jody Britt seconded; the minutes record the motion as passed by unanimous voice vote.
Separately, Resolution 04-2024-04 authorizes certain amendments to all county funds except those established for schools. Commissioner Stacey Batey moved the measure and Commissioner Rusty Grove seconded; the minutes record the motion language but do not include a roll-call tally.
The commission confirmed appointments to county boards: Anita Nicholson, Henry Frazier, Charles Horn and Rhonda Burgess to the Equalization Board; Finee Miller, Mary Stacy and Tim Spann to the Audit Committee; and Tammy Kilgore to the Library Board of Trustees. The commission also approved a slate of notaries submitted for approval. Motions to approve the appointments and notaries were recorded as passed by unanimous aye voice votes.
Announcements at the end of the meeting noted County Mayor Bob Rial thanking Terry Malone for work on the Vulcan Project and a Tax Reappraisal process explanation from Jenny Martin. The next regular commission meeting was set for May 20, 2024.
