Claiborne County approves a slate of budget amendments, grants and local projects

The Claiborne County Commission approved several budget amendments, grant acceptances and local project actions during its Feb. 28 meeting, ranging from personnel pay adjustments to equipment purchases and road additions.
Commissioners adopted Resolution 2022‑016 to align the county mileage‑reimbursement rate with the State of Tennessee ($0.585 per mile) going forward. They approved a corrected VOCA grant budget amendment (Res. 2022‑017) to add $5,939 for a Victim Witness Coordinator at the Family Justice Center, and accepted a $26,158 state Mental Health Transport (MHT) grant for the sheriff’s department to purchase an inmate transport van (Res. 2022‑020).
Other votes included using insurance‑recovery funds to replenish sheriff‑vehicle maintenance (Res. 2022‑021), adding $52,000 in Hotel/Motel tax revenue to Industrial Development‑Contributions (Res. 2022‑022), and approving a $30,000 transfer for Harrogate and Tazewell senior‑center repairs (Res. 2022‑023). Commissioners also approved moving $2,000 within the Register of Deeds budget for additional office supplies (Res. 2022‑029) and combining essential‑pay transfers to compensate a named employee (Res. 2022‑027/028).
On infrastructure, commissioners approved adding 0.2 mile to Tilmon Lane (Res. 2022‑018), making the county-maintained length 0.6 mile after property‑owner agreements were presented. The commission also directed the Finance Department to advertise for architect proposals for county property at Montgomery and Main (Res. 2022‑026).
The ETHRA invoice of $7,000 for local aging services was approved for payment after a budget reallocation (Res. 2022‑019). All listed votes were carried by roll call, mostly unanimously, and corresponding budget lines were adjusted as described in the resolutions.
