Claiborne County approves five Board of Education budget amendments

Claiborne County commissioners voted March 21 to approve five budget amendments requested by the Board of Education that add state and grant receipts to the General Purpose Budget.
Under a single combined motion moved by Commissioner Shawn Peters and seconded by Commissioner Charlton Vass, the commission approved Resolutions 2022-032 through 2022-036 by roll call vote 20-0. The amendments are recorded as follows: Res. 2022-032 adds $29,000 in Basic Education Program (BEP) revenue to cover increased medical insurance premium unit costs; Res. 2022-033 adds a $36,900 UTrust grant to be disbursed to the schools; Res. 2022-034 adds a $51,443 TASC refund for employee benefits; Res. 2022-035 adds a $2,500 TVA grant for supplies; and Res. 2022-036 adds a $7,530 insurance recovery for Bus 91 to cover vehicle parts.
All five resolutions state they involve no local tax dollars. Each resolution lists school officials and the school finance director (Kelly Harvey) in the signature block. The commission approved the combined package to allow the Board of Education to post the grant and refund revenues and corresponding expenditures to the appropriate budget lines.
