Claiborne County Commission approves multiple Board of Education budget amendments for state and federal grants

The Claiborne County Commission on April 18 combined and approved four Board of Education budget amendments to add state and federal grant revenues and corresponding expenditures to school budgets.
Res. 2022-052 increases the School Nutrition budget by $83,271.17 to reflect a Supply Chain Assistance (milk) grant, moving the revenue into a milk expense line. Res. 2022-053 adds a state Learning Camp Transportation grant of $76,417.69 to the General Purpose budget and allocates funds for bus driver pay, benefits, vehicle maintenance and fuel. Res. 2022-055 adds $550,822.77 in state grants to address learning loss and allocates the funds to teachers, educational assistants, retirement, instructional supplies and related items. Res. 2022-056 adjusts Federal Projects budget lines (ESSER, preschool grant and ARP IDEA/preschool) so the county budget matches state reporting requirements.
Commission documents and sponsor lines identify Kelly Harvey as School Finance Director. Commissioners stated the amendments do not require local tax dollars and were passed as a combined motion by roll call vote of 21-0.
The resolutions require the County Clerk and School Finance Director to update county budget records to reflect the increased grant revenues and the new or amended expense lines. No public testimony opposing the amendments was recorded at the meeting.
