Commission authorizes designee to register Claiborne County for opioid settlement participation

The Claiborne County Commission on Nov. 15 authorized an official designee to register the county for participation in national opioid litigation settlement processes.
By approving Resolution 2021-109, the commission appointed James D. Estep III to be authorized to register and execute the Participation Agreement on behalf of Claiborne County. The resolution reflected guidance from the county's counsel (Jesse and Jesse law firm) that counties must register to receive a Participation Agreement and identified a January 2, 2022 deadline for submission.
Commissioners approved the resolution 20–0. The meeting packet included the registration code and a request that counties schedule a meeting if needed to secure a vote.
The designee will complete registration steps and execute any required participation documents; commissioners did not discuss settlement terms or amounts at the Nov. 15 meeting.
