Commission accepts $149,000 donation for body scanner; transfers Tahoe to assessor's office

The Claiborne County Commission on Nov. 15 accepted a $149,000 contribution from Combined Public Communications to purchase a body scanner for the Sheriff's Department and approved Resolution 2021-108 to transfer a 2003 Chevrolet Tahoe from the sheriff's fleet to the Assessor of Property.
Commissioner Mitchell Cosby moved Resolution 2021-107 to accept the donation for law-enforcement equipment; the commission noted the purchase will be procured through a competitive bidding process because the anticipated cost exceeds $10,000. The resolution to accept contributions and appropriate the funds passed 20–0.
Separately, Commissioner David Mundy moved and the commission approved Resolution 2021-108 directing transfer of the 2003 Tahoe to the Assessor's Office to replace a vehicle that no longer operates because of transmission failure. The measure passed unanimously.
The sheriff's office will follow county procurement rules for the body-scanner purchase; no vendor was selected at the meeting. The resolutions instruct county staff to record the contributions and to amend fund balances as needed.
The meeting packet included insurance and dealer-quote documents for highway vehicle replacement but no procurement documents for the body scanner were provided at the Nov. 15 session.
