Commission approves multiple Board of Education budget amendments tied to state and federal grants

Claiborne County commissioners on Oct. 18 approved six separate budget amendments submitted by the Claiborne County Board of Education to align local budgets with state-approved lines and updated grant awards.

On a combined motion by Commissioner Shawn Peters and second by Commissioner Sherry McCreary, the commission passed Resolutions 2021-090 through 2021-095 by roll-call vote (20 for, 0 against). The package included adjustments to School Nutrition (Resolution 2021-090), general purpose budget line reclassifications (2021-091 and 2021-092), and multiple federal-project amendments to match state reporting requirements for Perkins, ESSER 1.0/2.0 and ARP IDEA/preschool grants (Resolutions 2021-093, 2021-094 and 2021-095).

Resolution texts list specific account increases and decreases (line-item salaries, social-security and retirement entries, instructional supplies, capital outlay and other grant-specific items) and state that these changes involve no local tax dollars. The ESSER-related amendment (2021-094) contains substantial program-line changes consistent with state-modified allocations.

Dr. Linda Keck, identified in the record as Director of Schools, and Sue Tuttle, the county finance director referenced in the resolutions, are shown on the resolution documents as officials associated with the submissions.
