Claiborne County Commission approves batch of routine appointments, school budget amendments and administrative measures

Tazewell, Tenn. — Claiborne County commissioners used their June 21 meeting to approve numerous administrative and budget items, including board appointments, school budget amendments, year-end fund adjustments and the creation of a redistricting committee.
Key actions included appointing Danny L. McCreary to the E911 board (Res. 2021-046) and Jim Welch and Mitzi Surber to the Library Board. The commission adopted a ThreeStar fiscal confirmation letter (Res. 2021-056) acknowledging review of county debt policy, cash-flow forecasting expectations before issuing debt and the requirement that county offices maintain documented internal controls.
The body approved a package of Claiborne County Board of Education budget amendments (Res. 2021-047 through Res. 2021-055) that add state COVID-related funds to the General Purpose and School Nutrition budgets, make an interfund transfer to Federal Projects to manage ESSER reimbursements, increase school nutrition revenues and authorization to amend federal-project lines to match state grant budgets. Commissioners recorded these as motions and approved them, several by unanimous roll-call votes.
Other measures adopted included establishing a Redistricting Committee (Res. 2021-057) charged with preparing suggested plans by Jan. 1, 2022; approving the addition of Magnolia Ridge Lane to the county road list (Res. 2021-058); approving agricultural committee appointments (Res. 2021-059); excluding non-registrable correctional-institution residents from reapportionment counts (Res. 2021-060); and year-end payroll accrual and budget realignments for several funds (Res. 2021-061, Res. 2021-063, Res. 2021-064). The commission also declared approximately 40 sheriff's vehicles and equipment surplus for sale (Res. 2021-062) and appointed Rick Slaven to the Beer Board (Res. 2021-065).
Votes were recorded where roll-call tallies were taken; several items were approved by voice vote or noted as "motion carried by aye vote." Commissioners asked that the vehicle department-designation discussion be returned to the July agenda with the road superintendent present for more detail. The meeting adjourned after the last motion.
