Commissioner Rosanne Ward told the commission at its June 17 meeting that she was not aware of the recent purchase of the Lockhart Building. Mayor Brett Lashlee responded that the language of the resolution authorizing the acquisition allowed him to complete the purchase without prior authorization from the commissioners.
Commissioner Sonny Hall asked directly for the purchase price; the mayor replied that the county paid $35,000. The meeting minutes record the exchange in question-and-answer form but show no subsequent motion, amendment, or roll-call vote specifically approving the purchase during that session.
The discussion came near the end of the agenda during a period of miscellaneous business. Commissioners did not record any formal direction in the minutes indicating additional oversight action or a retroactive approval vote; the minutes instead show the meeting concluded after the remaining resolutions and routine adjournment motions were handled.
