Benton County commissioners approve series of budget transfers, release 2016 tax aggregate

Benton County Commissioners met at the Benton County Courthouse on May 20, 2019, and approved a package of budget transfers, grant appropriations and administrative items. Commissioners also voted to release the county trustee from a 2016 tax aggregate of $7,713,615.00.
The meeting opened with Sheriff Kenny Christopher calling the session to order and an invocation from Commissioner Darrell Hicks. After roll call by County Clerk Wanda Malin, the commission approved the agenda and then moved through routine business. Commissioner Don Patton moved — and Commissioner Rachelle Hill seconded — the release of the 2016 tax aggregate; the motion passed on a voice vote with all present voting Aye.
Commissioners approved the Tennessee Rehabilitation Center quarterly report and then moved to a series of resolutions. Resolutions 20190520-01, -02 and -03 were approved (motions and votes recorded on the minutes). The board combined Resolutions 20190520-04 through 20190520-11 and approved the combined package by roll call. Later votes approved Resolutions 20190520-12 and 20190520-13, which handle an appropriation for tire disposal and a jail medical claim budget, respectively.
Mayor Brett Lashlee updated the commission about the Benton Decatur Sewer district, stating that recent actions had relieved debt pressure and produced savings for the county budget. Lashlee also reaffirmed the county’s interest in implementing the Code Red emergency alert system.
The commission pulled Resolution 20190520-14 at Mayor Lashlee’s request; no vote was taken on that item. Resolution 20190520-15 was amended to correct the total to $4,369.20 and was approved as amended.
Commissioners approved a slate of notary appointments for May 2019, confirming Cheryl Young, Jody Farmer, Molly N. Pate, David M. Thomas and Amanda E. Lambdin. Later in the meeting the board suspended the rules to bring forward six late resolutions (20190520-16 through 20190520-21), combined them and approved the combined set by roll call.
The meeting concluded after commissioners voted on remaining items and adjourned. Minutes and formal resolutions referenced during the meeting will be prepared and filed by the county clerk; Resolution language for the Code Red appropriation will be drafted for the next meeting.
