The Benton County Board of Commissioners elected Commissioner Rosanne Ward as chair and selected Ward Plant as pro‑tem at a regular meeting on Sept. 21, 2020.
Two nominees were offered in the chair election. Commissioner Ferguson moved to nominate Rosanne Ward, seconded by Commissioner Hill; Commissioner Patton nominated Ward Plant, seconded by Commissioner Miller. The roll‑call count recorded 10 votes for Ward Plant and 7 for Rosanne Ward with one pass; Rosanne Ward later changed a recorded pass to a vote for herself and was declared elected.
The commission then held a separate vote for pro‑tem. Commissioner Patton moved and Commissioner Miller seconded to nominate Ward Plant; Commissioner Nunnery moved and Commissioner Hill seconded to nominate Gary Furr. Ward Plant received a majority on the roll call and was elected pro‑tem.
The newly elected chair will prepare committee assignments to begin Oct. 1 and said she will circulate those assignments prior to the start of the committee year so members can prepare to attend monthly committee meetings.
The meeting record shows motions and roll‑call tallies were used for both elections; the actions were procedural and did not require additional ordinance or budget authority.
The commission adjourned at the end of the meeting and will next convene on its regular schedule.
