Sheriff Kenny Christopher told the Benton County Commission on April 20 that a vendor has quoted approximately $350,000 to replace the county jail’s camera system: roughly $250,000 for interior cameras and $100,000 for exterior cameras and fencing.
Commissioners asked for additional information about the proposed system, its lifespan and future replacement options. The mayor and commissioners requested that an IT staffer inspect the county’s existing camera equipment and that engineering input be sought before moving forward on any procurement.
No motion to accept the quoted work was made at the meeting. The commission recorded that the matter will proceed only after the IT inspection and more detailed specifications are developed.
Sheriff Christopher raised the item during the “Any Other Business” portion of the agenda; the commission then returned to regular business and adjourned later in the meeting.
