Benton County approves multiple appropriations and budget adjustments, including $253,940 from tax sale and FEMA funds

Key actions included: budgeting $253,940 from proceeds of a delinquent property tax sale to the county general fund (Resolution 20211018‑08); budgeting $33,844.30 in FEMA and insurance recovery funds to the Highway Department with itemized increases for contracted services, equipment and parts (Resolution 20211018‑06); and appropriating $100,000 from the Board of Education’s unassigned fund balance to cover ESSER 3 payroll until federal funds arrive (Resolution 20211018‑12), a measure that passed on a roll call vote of 14 Ayes and 2 Abstain.
Other approvals included budgeting $2,400 in insurance recovery for replacement fencing at the waste tire shed (20211018‑05) and a subsequent additional $500 appropriation (20211018‑15) to cover the total $2,900 cost; an $818.58 allocation from airport revenues toward a new equipment trailer (20211018‑07) and an additional $712.42 from unassigned funds to cover the remainder (20211018‑16); a $1,000 donation budgeted for the animal shelter (20211018‑09); and $1,710.81 appropriated to cover new election printers and scanners, with expected reimbursement from the State Department of Elections (20211018‑17).
The commission amended Resolution 20211018‑18 to increase funding for a sheriff’s impound‑lot fence from $42,300 to $45,325; the amendment passed 15 Ayes, 1 Nay, and the amended resolution passed 14 Ayes, 2 Nays. Several motions and resolutions passed by unanimous roll call votes. The board adjourned after approving the listed notaries and noting other business, including a commissioner raising the need for air conditioning on school buses.
