Stephen Stokes sworn in as 1st District commissioner; 3rd District ends in a tie

The Benton County Board of Commissioners filled the 1st District vacancy Oct. 18 when commissioners cast votes that resulted in Stephen Stokes receiving nine votes and being declared the winner. The meeting recessed so Stokes could be sworn in as the 1st District commissioner.
The commission’s vote for the 3rd District ended in a tie: Adam Reed and Brett Burke each received seven votes. Because no candidate received a majority, the seat remained vacant and the commission scheduled a new vote for the following month.
The nominations and votes took place at the regular meeting held at the Benton County Courthouse and were recorded in the certified minutes. No public comments were recorded during the Citizens Forum that evening.
