Tazewell County Planning Commission approves Marinus E&S plan and Earls three‑lot subdivision

TAZEWELL, Va. — The Tazewell County Planning Commission on March 10 approved two land‑use actions that clear the way for site work and a three‑lot division in northern Tazewell County.
The panel approved an erosion and sediment control (E&S) plan for property owned by Harold Marinus in North Tazewell that will allow grading and installation of new storage buildings. Jim Ribble of Alpha Land Surveyors presented the plan; County Director of Engineering Kenneth Dunford said Ribble had addressed items the department identified and recommended approval contingent on payment of the E&S fee and receipt of a performance bond. The commission voted 5–0 to approve the plan; the $60 E&S fee and a $3,780 bond were recorded by the county on March 15, 2022.
The commission also approved a three‑lot subdivision for the Earls property on Shannon Branch Road in Cedar Bluff. The proposal divides the tract into one lot with an existing house, one with a single‑wide manufactured home and one vacant parcel. Dunford reported the parcel meets the county’s subdivision requirements, fronts a state‑maintained road and has access to water and sewer, so no variances were required. The subdivision fee of $109 was recorded February 14, 2022. The motion passed 5–0.
Both approvals were made by voice vote during the meeting held at the Tazewell County Administration Building. Members Maggie Asbury and Charlie Hart were absent. Motions and movers: Member Robert “Bob” Moss moved approval of the E&S plan, seconded by Member Jason Herndon; Member Herndon moved approval of the Earls subdivision, seconded by Member Eddie Pauley.
Engineering will retain permit documentation as required. No appeals or variances were recorded in the meeting minutes.
