Resident asks planning commission to add Route 91 to Comprehensive Plan over flooding, maintenance concerns

Jimmy Durham of 260 Angel Meadow Lane described Route 91 as a county primary route that is poorly maintained, floods in heavy conditions with water running in the road, and needs paving work and brush cutting. Durham asked the commission to place the road on the Comprehensive Plan so it would be eligible for funding consideration.
Member Maggie Asbury asked Durham or Assistant Chair Robert "Bob" Moss to provide details so she could forward the information to the Tazewell County Board of Supervisors, the Virginia Department of Transportation and Senator Mark Hackworth. The exchange was recorded during the public-comment portion of the meeting.
The meeting also recorded separate member concerns including a notice that Pocahontas High School was scheduled for auction on Aug. 15, 2022 at 10:00 a.m., and observations from members about a tree die-off possibly caused by a moth. Director of County Engineering Kenneth Dunford and Executive Secretary Kimberly Hilbert also briefed the commission on ongoing work updating the Comprehensive Plan.
