Bland County board ends burn‑ban emergency, approves reassessment contract and several appropriations

At its Dec. 17 meeting the Bland County Board adopted a resolution ending the local burn‑ban state of emergency, approved a 2026 reassessment contract with Wampler and Eanes, adopted trash bill adjustments, added Dec. 26 as a local holiday, and appropriated $20,000 and $18,217.10 to two Sheriff budgets.
The Bland County Board of Supervisors on Dec. 17 adopted a series of administrative and budget actions, including a resolution certifying the end of the county's local state of emergency related to a burn ban and approval of a contract for the 2026 general reassessment.
By roll-call votes the board approved the reassessment contract with Wampler and Eanes Appraisal Group, Ltd. and authorized the County Administrator to sign the agreement on the board's behalf. The board also adopted trash bill adjustments totaling $3,033.54 for Oct.–Dec. 2024 and added Dec. 26, 2024 to the county's holiday calendar.
The board appropriated $20,000 to the Sheriff's Selective Enforcement budget to purchase a vehicle and $18,217.10 into the Sheriff's Blue Line account for police equipment. Those measures passed by unanimous roll-call votes. The transcript records motions and seconders for each item: motions were commonly moved by Randy Johnson or Patrick Groseclose and seconded by other supervisors, with all roll-call votes recorded as yeas.
During the boards-and-commissions portion of the meeting Commissioner of the Revenue Cindy Wright informed supervisors that Carman Viar has been designated a Master Deputy and asked the board to consider a 9.3% increase to Viar's salary; the transcript records the request but not any subsequent vote or board action on the pay matter. Sheriff Jason Ramsey also updated the board on formation of a six‑member TAC team within the Sheriff's Office. The board recessed after completing its agenda.
