Bland County board hears FY24 audit, OKs health insurance and lease extension

At the March 25 meeting the board heard the FY24 financial review and audit, agreed to remain with The Local Choice health insurance for FY26, extended the fairgrounds lease to Oct. 2, 2027, and approved zoning time extensions and an MOU with the school division.
The Bland County Board of Supervisors received a presentation of the FY24 Financial Review and Audit at its March 25 regular meeting and took several administrative actions.
Gordon Jones presented the FY24 financial review and audit to the board; the minutes record the presentation but do not show a separate motion to accept or approve the audit. Separately, the board voted unanimously to stay with The Local Choice as the county's health insurance provider for fiscal year 2026 and to adopt the same plan offerings and rates as in FY25.
The board also approved a two-year extension of the fairgrounds lease with Bland County Fair, Inc., extending the lease through Oct. 2, 2027. In zoning matters, the board granted a one-year time extension to begin construction for Tax Map 93-A-27 (Walkers Creek) and an 18-month extension to complete construction for Tax Map 32-A-12 (Boy Scout Camp). The board adopted a memorandum of understanding with Bland County Schools for use of school facilities during a disaster and approved advertising a public hearing for possible Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) funding.

The record does not list resulting contract terms for the lease extension, detailed plan changes for the zoning time extensions, or formal acceptance of the audit; county staff are responsible for follow-up implementation and filings.
