Tazewell County CPMT approves routine reports and funding for child services; schedules follow-up on technical assistance report

The Tazewell County Community Policy and Management Team (CPMT) met Nov. 27, 2023, in the Training Room of the Tazewell County Department of Social Services and approved routine minutes and financial reports before taking a closed-session vote to authorize funding for several child-serving cases.
Robin Jackson, representing the Tazewell County Health Department, moved to approve the Oct. 23, 2023 minutes; Shanna Plaster seconded and the motion passed unanimously. Dwayne Sturgill (Family Preservation Services) moved to approve the Oct. 31, 2023 financial report; Shanna Plaster seconded and that motion also passed unanimously. The group likewise approved encumbered WRAP funds and Safe & Stable Funds for October 2023 by unanimous votes.
CPMT later voted to enter a closed session to discuss individual foster care, CPS, Cumberland, Court Services and school-related cases and the funding to be provided for services. The written certification applying the Virginia Freedom of Information Act (Code of Virginia — 2.2-3711 and — 2.2-3712) recorded a vote of AYES 8, NAYS 0, ABSENT 3.
After the closed session, Dwayne Sturgill moved, and Roberta Boyd seconded, approval of funding to be provided for Foster Care, CPS, Cumberland, Court Services and Tazewell County Schools for services related to the discussed cases; the motion carried unanimously. The CPMT minutes do not list line-item dollar amounts in the meeting text; members asked that future service summaries identify the specific OEI services (not just an OEI label) and show the amount requested with Medicaid payment and the amount requested without Medicaid payment.
Lori Gates-Addison (Cumberland Mountain Community Services Board) moved that the CPMT enter closed session; Robin Jackson seconded. Gates-Addison also highlighted community training opportunities later in the meeting, noting ongoing Narcan and Safe Talk suicide-prevention training being offered to the public.
Jeff Brintle, director of Tazewell County Juvenile Court Services, presided in the absence of Chair David Taylor and Vice Chair Melinda Smith and signed approvals on behalf of the CPMT. The meeting adjourned at 11:30 a.m.; the next CPMT meeting is scheduled for Dec. 18, 2023 at 10:00 a.m.
