Lunenburg County Electoral Board declines Sunday absentee request, schedules EPB training and machine testing

At its May 4 meeting the Lunenburg County Electoral Board unanimously declined a request from the Lunenburg County Democratic Party to authorize Sunday absentee voting, confirmed delivery of electronic poll books and scheduled training and L&A testing ahead of the primary election.
The Lunenburg County Electoral Board voted unanimously on May 4, 2021, to decline a letter from the Lunenburg County Democratic Party asking the board to authorize absentee voting on at least one Sunday during the early absentee voting period. The board directed the secretary to notify the party in writing of the decision.
Chairman Donna Dagner opened the meeting at 2:25 p.m. and reviewed a list of new election laws due to take effect in July. Secretary Oliver Wright reported that the county’s electronic poll books (EPBs) and associated hardware have been delivered and that a preliminary multi-jurisdiction training will be held at the Nottoway Registrar’s office at 1:00 p.m. on Monday, May 10. Wright and the General Registrar plan to attend; county-specific acceptance and training will be scheduled as soon as possible.
Wright also reported that Logic and Accuracy (L&A) testing for the remaining voting machines is scheduled for Friday, May 7. He noted that the CAP machine already was tested and is being used for early absentee voting. The board discussed plans to provide EPB training to all poll workers before the primary election.
The board’s unanimous vote to decline the Democratic Party request was recorded during an extended discussion of the party’s letter; the minutes do not record a written motion or named mover/second. The board includes Chairman Donna Dagner, Vice Chairman LaVater Brown and Secretary Oliver Wright; all members were present along with the General Registrar when the vote was taken.
