The board voted to raise compensation for precinct staff to the following rates: poll chiefs $160, assistant poll chiefs $140 and poll workers $130. The board also set training stipends at $15 for sessions that include dinner and $25 for sessions without dinner. The motion to change the pay scale was seconded and approved; the minutes record that the changes will be incorporated into the board's budget submission for the next fiscal year.
Board members said the adjustment was intended to bring Lunenburg County's pay in line with neighboring counties. The minutes note the board reviewed a comparison of pay for election officials in surrounding counties before making the change.
The board recorded the action in its minutes and directed staff to include the new pay scale in the next fiscal-year budget documents. The board set the next meeting for April 5 at 3:30 PM; the March 1 meeting adjourned at 4:20 PM.
