Planning Commission recommends approval for Parham’s Stop convenience store

The Lunenburg County Planning Commission unanimously voted Jan. 5, 2023, to recommend that the Board of Supervisors approve CUP 7-22, allowing Mayank Patel to operate Parham’s Stop, a convenience store at 2087 South Hill Road in Kenbridge.
The recommendation follows a public hearing at which Patel said he plans to continue the business, will commute from Richmond and will employ local residents. "I want to continue with business," Patel said in his presentation to the commission.
The commission entered and exited the public hearing by unanimous motions. Commissioners discussed a discrepancy on a soil report that was addressed to "Parham’s Grocery" because that was the name used when the DEQ report was prepared; staff confirmed the owner changed the trade name to Parham’s Stop on Aug. 30, 2022. After deliberation, Commissioner Thompson moved to recommend approval to the Board of Supervisors and Commissioner Shell seconded; the motion passed unanimously.
The recommendation forwards the permit with the conditions listed in the staff report. Clerk Taylor N. Newton noted the commission had the option to recommend approval, deny with explanation or defer to another meeting; the commission chose to recommend approval.
The Board of Supervisors will consider the application at a future meeting. The commission record lists the parcel as 081-0A-0-56, consisting of 2.05 acres in an A-1 agricultural zone.
