Board approves 13-year maintenance change order for county radio system

Lunenburg County supervisors on Oct. 10 approved Change Order CR003 with Williams Communications to add a 13-year software enhancement subscription and maintenance agreement for the component that connects the county’s radio microwave system.
Radio Communications System Coordinator Rodney Newton told the board the county’s new radio system has been used by emergency personnel for nearly a year and is working well. He said the maintenance component was part of the original package proposed in 2021 but had not been included; Williams Communications provided a change order that spreads the cost over 13 years and includes annual maintenance and software updates.
Supervisor T. Wayne Hoover recommended approval, calling the component necessary to sustain the system; Supervisor Mike Hankins seconded the motion. The Board voted unanimously to approve Change Order CR003.
The county will implement the maintenance subscription for the microwave-connect component and monitor performance and costs over the subscription period.
