Board moves to zero juror liability account, accept highway safety grant and carry over Commercentre funds

At its Oct. 10 meeting, the Lunenburg County Board of Supervisors approved several finance and grant actions affecting county operations and economic development.
Administrator Tracy M. Gee said the juror liability account holds $6,840 in expenses not eligible for state reimbursement under new grand-jury payment rules and asked the board to zero that account with General Fund reserves. Supervisor Frank W. Bacon moved to zero out the juror liability account; the motion passed unanimously.
The Board accepted and appropriated $14,400 in Highway Safety Grant funds from the Virginia Department of Motor Vehicles to pay deputy overtime for selective enforcement. Supervisor Greg Currin disclosed a conflict of interest because he works as a sheriff’s deputy and abstained from the vote. The roll call recorded Supervisors Bacon, Pennington, Hankins, Hoover, Edmonds and Zava voting yes and Supervisor Currin abstaining.
Administrator Gee also updated the Board on grant-funded site-upgrade work at the Lunenburg Commercentre: the county received $77,175 from GO Virginia and $77,175 from the Tobacco Commission (combined $154,350) for due-diligence studies; $106,148 in invoices for work completed in April–July were paid in FY24, and the board unanimously approved carrying the remaining $48,202 into FY25.
