Board approves $140,000 school supplemental appropriation; ADM steady

The Lunenburg County Board of Supervisors unanimously approved Supplemental Appropriation #9 on Sept. 12, moving $140,000 from the Textbook Fund beginning balance into the FY2024 School Board Budget (Fund 3), revising the total to $29,139,264.24.
Mrs. Jessica Nowlin presented the request and provided the school system’s monthly report. She said average daily membership (ADM) stood at 1,481 versus a budgeted 1,483, and that ADM is trending upward with a clearer final average expected by Christmas. Nowlin estimated about 150 students are currently homeschooled and said staff are working to spend remaining ESSER III funds before the deadline.
Supervisor T. Wayne Hoover said he and the Finance Committee plan to meet with school representatives before the October Board meeting to review finances and requested documentation be provided in advance.
The appropriation was approved on a motion by Supervisor Frank W. Bacon, seconded by Supervisor Edward Pennington.
