Lunenburg supervisors approve Crown Castle tower recertification, accept court-clerk grants and back two BEAD applications

The Lunenburg County Board of Supervisors on Nov. 14 unanimously approved a conditional use permit allowing Crown Castle to recertify and alter an existing 256-foot wireless telecommunications tower in the Kenbridge area, and moved through a slate of routine administrative actions including grant acceptances, surplus declarations and support for broadband grant applicants.
The board approved Conditional Use Permit 4-24 for the tower on tax parcel 048-0A-0-127 (listed as 1091 East 5th Avenue). Paul Peckens, agent for CCATT LLC and attorney-in-fact for Crown Castle, presented the application; County Administrator Tracy M. Gee said the Planning Commission recommended approval with conditions and suggested assigning a separate address to the tower for emergency response. No members of the public spoke during the hearing.
The board accepted two grants for the Circuit Court Clerk’s Office: $71,203 in Technology Trust Funds and $52,135 from the Library of Virginia to restore five deed books. County Administrator Tracy M. Gee said the Library of Virginia funds will be used for restoration services secured with Kofile.
Board members also authorized several routine financial actions. The board accepted surplus sale proceeds of $1,475.01 from a 2001 Ford Ranger and $511 from a Great Dane zero-turn mower and appropriated those funds to vehicle maintenance and building-and-grounds expense lines. Administrator Gee said the proceeds will offset maintenance and building expenses. The board unanimously approved forwarding $270 received from the DMV’s Dog and Cat Sterilization Fund to Southside SPCA for animal sterilization work.
The board unanimously approved letters of support for broadband applications by Kinex and RiverStreet seeking BEAD (Broadband Equity, Access and Deployment) grant funding from the Virginia Department of Housing and Community Development.
The meeting concluded after the board accepted the Abstracts of Votes for the November presidential and general election and adjourned.
