County notified of RWGS request for temporary DEQ authorization to raise daily disposal to 2,000 tons; tipping fees noted

Administrator Tracy M. Gee told the board that RWGS, LLC has submitted a major modification and a request for a temporary authorization to the Virginia Department of Environmental Quality to increase the permitted intake at the Disposal and Recycling Services of Lunenburg facility from 1,500 tons per day to 2,000 tons per day.
Gee said the temporary authorization request was submitted under 9VAC20-8 l-600(F)(4), which requires the permittee to notify persons on the facility mailing list. County Attorney Frank Rennie told the board that the facility’s tipping fee increased from $2.40 to $2.55 on Dec. 8, 2024, and noted that a Consumer Price Index adjustment effective Jan. 1, 2025 may further raise fees.
The notice to the board was informational; the DEQ process includes public notice and the county will receive any required comments or hearings through the agency’s permitting procedures.
