Board handles routine appropriations, VDOT report and appointments; adopts updated court fee schedule
Summary

Administrator Tracy M. Gee told the Board that repairs and renovations to the Tax Office totaled $98,239.96; insurance proceeds of $67,970.60 were received and the Board approved increasing the insurance proceeds revenue and capital improvement expense line by $67,970.60 to offset costs.
The Sheriff's Office asked the Board to accept $4,656.80 representing a contract payoff from a deputy who did not complete a five-year contract; the Board approved placing those funds in the Sheriff's capital improvement expense line. The Board also accepted $4,728.66 in vacancy-savings funds from the Compensation Board for the Sheriff's Office and allocated $2,055 to dues and $2,673.66 to travel expense lines.
Mr. Kevin Smith of the Virginia Department of Transportation reported crews had been in "snow mode," that pothole repairs and patching were ongoing, and that ten employees would travel to Christiansburg to assist with storm recovery. He said the Secondary Six Year Plan projection is $576,000 and would cover about 2.5 miles of paved road; he proposed a May public hearing for the plan and noted a March public hearing is planned on abandoning a portion of Hickory Road. Smith also said a contractor will return to fix potholes on Oral Oaks Road once the asphalt plant reopens.
Supervisor T. Wayne Hoover moved to appoint Mr. Christopher Bacon to the Board of Zoning Appeals for a five-year term ending June 30, 2029; Supervisor Robert Zava seconded. The motion carried with six votes in favor and Supervisor Frank W. Bacon abstaining.
The Board unanimously adopted the updated Circuit Court Clerk Fee Schedule (updated February 2025) by resolution after the Circuit Court requested recognition of the Department of Judicial Services' revised schedule.
The Board entered closed session under Virginia Code §2.2-3711(A)(1) to consider the County Administrator's annual evaluation, reconvened in open session, certified compliance with the Freedom of Information Act, and adjourned.
