McKinley Perkinson of BrightSpeed presented the company's broadband expansion plans and requested a letter of support for BrightSpeed's application to the federal Broadband Equity, Access and Deployment (BEAD) program. Perkinson provided a project overview and explained the company's intent to expand service in the county.
Supervisor Frank W. Bacon moved to allow the chairman to sign a letter of support for BrightSpeed; Supervisor T. Wayne Hoover seconded the motion and the Board approved it unanimously. Chairman Alvester L. Edmonds was authorized to sign the support letter to accompany BrightSpeed's BEAD application.
The Board's authorization is limited to a local letter of support; any grant award would depend on BrightSpeed's BEAD application and federal program rules.
