Meridian Waste donates $50,000 to Lunenburg organizations; food pantries outline expansion plans

Representatives from Meridian Waste presented $10,000 donations to five Lunenburg County organizations during the Board of Supervisors meeting on April 10, 2025. The donations were designated for the Kenbridge Community Gym (new HVAC), the Victoria Community Center (skating supplies), the Senior Citizens Center (new chairs), Community Resource Services (new food pantry), and Lunenburg Health Services (support for free services to seniors and shut-ins).
Donna Dagner of Community Resource Services updated the board on the organization's plan for a new 6,000-square-foot food pantry that would permit extended evening and weekend hours to reach more residents. "The 6,000 square foot facility will allow for extended hours in the evenings and weekends," Dagner said. Taquisha Stiles of Cornerstone Food Pantry said her organization provides food, clothing and school supplies to families in financial distress and that local support directly affects the services they can provide.
The board also received the monthly school report from Jessica Nowlin, who said the school division's average daily membership (ADM) is 1,483, with 133 students home-schooled and 32 claiming religious exemptions. The board took no additional action on these presentations beyond accepting the reports.
