Isabella County board ratifies invoices, amends examiner contract, repeals policy and appoints member

At its April 1 meeting, the Isabella County Board of Commissioners ratified two invoice lists, authorized a contract amendment with the medical examiner provider, repealed a county insurance-committee policy, approved a labor-related letter of understanding and appointed a resident to a regional planning committee.
Commissioner Steve Swaney moved to ratify the Finance Committee’s March 14 invoice list for $329,782.89 and the March 21 invoice list for $308,659.81, together with the Adjustments List dated March 13, 2025; the motion carried with all commissioners voting yea. Commissioner Steven Weber moved and the board approved the Fourth Amendment to the Medical Examiner Services Agreement dated March 17, 2025 between Edward W. Sparrow Hospital Association and Isabella County and authorized the board chair to sign the amendment.
The board also voted to repeal General Administrative, Management and Operations Policy No. 225 (the Insurance Committee Policy) after a motion from Commissioner Tobin Hope and support from Commissioner Jerry Jaloszynski. Commissioner James Moreno moved, supported by Commissioner Bob Campbell, to approve the application of Joel Hofman to be seated on the Heartland Material Management Planning Committee; that appointment was approved unanimously.
In other business, the board approved a Letter of Understanding with the Police Officers Association of Michigan, Corrections Unit, for the Isabella County Sheriff’s Department on a motion from Commissioner Jaloszynski supported by Commissioner Moreno.
During announcements, Commissioner James Moreno noted a personal item (receiving a maple tree from The City). Commissioner Tobin Hope clarified a prior public comment about a $216,000 appropriation to Community Mental Health for Central Michigan, explaining that Community Mental Health for Central Michigan is the public mental health authority serving six counties and that each county’s appropriation is based on population and set when the authority’s structure was created. Chairman Frank Engler reminded attendees about a weather advisory. The board adjourned at 5:35 p.m.
