The Isabella County Board of Commissioners on April 15 ratified multiple finance and administrative items, including two invoice lists totaling $2,280,742.07, authorization to file a Michigan Indigent Defense Commission (MIDC) compliance-plan grant application, and approval of a $301,185 payment milestone to Motorola for the county’s radio tower project.
On a motion by Commissioner Weber, seconded by Commissioner Swaney, the board ratified the March 28, 2025 invoice list of $270,499.24 and the April 4, 2025 invoice list of $2,010,242.83 and placed the March 27 adjustments list on file; the motion carried with recorded yeas from all seven commissioners. The board also authorized submission of the Fiscal Year 2026 MIDC Compliance Plan Grant Application and Cost Analysis (motion by Commissioner Hope, seconded by Commissioner Jaloszynski) and approved payment of Motorola Milestone 8 in the amount of $301,185 for the radio tower project (motion by Commissioner Campbell, seconded by Commissioner Moreno).
The board approved the 2025 Equalization Report on STC Form L-4024 and directed the chair and county clerk to sign and file the form with the State Tax Commission, as required by state statute. Commissioners also approved sections of the Isabella County Personnel Manual for non-represented employees (sections on use of PTO hours and the Earned Sick Time Act policy) and an amended Administrator/Controller contract for Brian A. Smith, effective May 1, 2025.
Why it matters: the approvals cover large invoice lists and a multi-hundred-thousand-dollar contract payment for county infrastructure, require statutory filings, and authorize administrative contract changes that affect county operations and budgets.
Public commenters at the meeting questioned use of county funds and vendor selection later in the agenda; that discussion occurred after these votes and is covered in a separate report. The meeting record does not include an itemized budgetary impact breakdown for all approved items; department staff were assigned to implement the administrative updates and file required reports.
The board adjourned at 6:26 p.m.
