Executive Director Joe Nolan updated the Chippewa-Luce-Mackinac Community Action board on several program developments at the March 26 meeting in Avery Square.
Nolan reviewed the architect-provided site plan for the Newberry senior-apartment project and said State Representative David Prestin signed a letter of support for the project. He described the agency's new senior services newsletter, noting 800 copies of the first (April 2025) edition were produced for distribution by meal drivers and mailings. Nolan also reported the agency has received $2,000 in donations to furnish new shelter units, plus hygiene kits from Lake Superior State University nursing and move-in kits from Soo Housing for program participants.
Nolan summarized progress on the Community Needs Assessment and Strategic Plan, reporting that staff closed demographic response gaps and doubled survey participation; he also shared a self-assessment scorecard on the Strategic Plan with the board. Nolan said he will attend MCA Legislative Day in May and briefed members on plans for the agency's 60th anniversary in July. Chair Kathy Twardy added that KMG will organize and fund the Newberry groundbreaking and discussed aligning agency closures with local school closings during inclement weather.
The board took no formal vote on the Newberry presentation; the items were informational and the minutes list follow-up work to update policies and personnel records where applicable.
