Chippewa County veterans committee accepts chairman’s immediate resignation, names Brooks Partridge chairman pro tem

The Chippewa County Department of Veteran Affairs Committee accepted the immediate resignation of Chairman Jim Shogren and elected Brooks Partridge as chairman pro tem and secretary/treasurer, committee records show.

At the Nov. 24 meeting at the Chippewa Courthouse in Sault Ste. Marie, the committee conducted routine business including approval of the agenda and the Oct. 28, 2025 minutes before addressing Shogren’s resignation. Committee members praised Shogren for years of service establishing the county veterans office and said his knowledge of veterans services will be missed.

The move to accept the resignation was made by Robert Savoie and supported by Dr. Frederick Ludwig; the motion carried on a voice vote. The committee then discussed the need for a temporary chair until all vacancies are filled and by voice vote elected Brooks Partridge as chairman pro tem, with Partridge also serving as secretary/treasurer until the committee seat is filled.

The committee reviewed applications for current committee openings and recommended Brooks Partridge and David Pearce for appointment. The recommendations will be forwarded to the County Administrator for presentation to the County Commission; the committee did not record a formal vote by roll call on the appointment recommendations.

The committee set a winter schedule change for meeting times (see separate item) and adjourned at 4:30 p.m. Record minutes indicate routine motions to approve the agenda and minutes were carried earlier in the meeting.
