Acting Chairman Brooks Partridge called the Chippewa County Department of Veteran Affairs Committee to order at 4:00 p.m. Aug. 26, 2025, at the Chippewa Courthouse in Sault Ste. Marie, but a quorum was not present and no formal business was transacted.
Committee members present — Partridge and Bob Savoie, with Damon Lieurance attending as a non-voting member — held an informal monthly report discussion. Members reviewed outreach and workload items for the Veteran Service Officer, including planning for the "U.P. Together with Veterans" event scheduled for Sept. 26, 2025, and informally noted the number of veterans visiting the office and the volume of phone inquiries. The minutes record that the committee discussed changes to the claims process but did not take action.
The minutes list MVAA grant distributions "in the amount of $200" and enumerate line items: Advertisement $0; Transportation $0; Food Assistance $200; Emergent Relief $0; Part-time Compliance Officer/Project Director $200. The record states that distributions of funds will be reviewed and voted on during the February monthly meeting. The line items as listed exceed the stated total; the committee will review and clarify allocations at the scheduled vote.
Approval of the Dec. 23, 2024 minutes was deferred because there was no quorum; the minutes note that a vote of approval will take place at the committee's February meeting. No action was taken on agenda items listed as burials, grave markers or food assistance during this session.
A motion was made to adjourn the meeting; the record shows the meeting adjourned at 4:15 p.m. The committee scheduled its next meeting for Tuesday, Sept. 30, 2025, at 4:00 p.m.
