Chippewa County Road Commission awards 2026 paving and marking contracts, approves six trucks and H40 bridge title sheet

Engineer Boileau reviewed competitive bids and recommended contracting the 2026 paving package to Payne & Dolan, which he said was the low bidder by about $500,000. Commissioner Moser moved and Commissioner Sprague seconded the motion to award the paving contract to Payne & Dolan; the motion carried.
The board also approved a pavement-marking contract with PK Contracting for a base amount of $125,000 and authorized up to an additional $75,000 for extra striping later in the year if county cashflow permits. Engineer Boileau told the board the marking bids came in significantly lower than anticipated, prompting the request for authority to expand striping work. Commissioner Sprague moved and Commissioner Moser seconded the motion; the motion carried.
On bridge work, the commission authorized the manager, engineer and board to sign Title Sheet JN220731 for the H40 Bridge. The motion to authorize signing was made by Commissioner Moser and seconded by Commissioner Sprague and carried.
In Old Business the board awarded a purchase of six (6) tandem trucks to JX Peterbilt. Manager Laitinen reviewed that two bids met specifications and that the Peterbilt units were the low conforming bid at $174,838.36 per truck. Commissioner Sprague moved to award the truck purchase and Commissioner Moser seconded; the motion carried.
The approved procurements are intended to support 2026 road maintenance and winter operations.
