The Board of Chippewa County Road Commissioners voted July 17, 2025, to authorize the purchase of two graders from the Menominee County Road Commission and approved routine financial items and conference delegates.
Manager Laitinen told the board an internal audit of fixed assets found the May purchase of a first grader was not formally recorded in the minutes. He said that the purchase was an agency-to-agency sale with a price reflecting a paid-down lease and that a second grader is expected to be acquired in the fall (estimated October). Commissioner Sprague moved to authorize purchase of two graders in 2025; Commissioner Moser seconded and the motion carried.
The board also approved payroll totaling $183,608.41 and vouchers totaling $556,109.74 from the County Road Fund, subject to audit. Commissioner Moser moved the payroll and voucher approval and Commissioner Sprague seconded; the motion carried. The board approved the minutes of the July 1, 2025 meeting (motion by Commissioner Sprague, second by Chairman Gagnon).
Manager Laitinen asked the board to authorize two delegates to the annual MERS conference in October at the Grand Traverse Resort; Office Manager Livermore volunteered to serve as the officer delegate and the board authorized Livermore and a union-elected employee delegate. Commissioner Moser moved the authorization and Commissioner Sprague seconded; the motion carried.
In other business, Office Manager Livermore reported that open-enrollment forms have mostly been returned and documentation will be provided to Acrisure for an August 1 effective date; an audit-exit meeting with Anderson Tackman is scheduled immediately after the July 31 board meeting. Fleet Manager Donajkowski said parts prices are rising due to tariffs and the office is preparing to sell used equipment. Manager Laitinen reported ongoing coordination with the DNR to withdraw a pit property on M-123 from the Timber Program; he also noted coordination with MDOT and Oakland County on Hold Bank Funds distribution and said Engineer Boileau posted 'Not Through Trucks' on Centerline in Rudyard, M-48 Business Spur and Mackinac Trail because of severe pavement damage expected to last through the end of August.
Chairman Jeremy Gagnon closed the meeting at 8:28 A.M., wishing attendees to "stay safe," according to the minutes and signature page. The board scheduled no additional actions related to the graders in the minutes beyond the authorization; the transcript records the second grader purchase timing as 'est. October.'
