Chippewa County Road Commission says projects progressing while state funding package remains stalled

Manager Laitinen reported on July 1 that several Chippewa County road projects are advancing but that a state funding package intended to support such work is currently stalled in Lansing.
The manager said he attended a ribbon-cutting for the Carbide Dock and spoke with Senators DaMoose and McBroom and Representative Fairbairn about the stalled funding. He reported that the Mackinac Trail project is almost complete; Chub Creek is fully excavated and pile driving is underway for the southerly abutment; and the 16 Mile project has begun with a crane delivered and assembled.
County projects include work on the 12 Mile Bypass and shoulder repairs, which Laitinen described as progressing. On the stalled funding he said the governor may need to press Democratic senators to move the initiative, a political assessment he offered during the manager's report.
The status of the funding package was described as unresolved during the meeting; no formal board action on state advocacy was recorded. The commission also noted administrative deadlines and upcoming meetings related to benefits enrollment and the audit process.
